Don't worry, be happy

I know some of you have been worried about me over the past few months (years?), so I wanted to give you a quick update on how everything is going.

Let me start by saying: I feel like a new woman.

I have more energy than I've had in years, despite the fact that I can count the number of waking hours I've spent in my house this week on one hand. I have been super-busy at both jobs, and I don't think that will change until I head out for a week with my family next Friday.

The CPAP machine (or "sleep machine" as I affectionately call it) is really making a difference in my life. I am getting so much more sleep than I was a few weeks ago. I wish I didn't know how to take the damn thing off in my sleep, but other than that it's working. And even on the days I take it off, I manage to sleep until 4 a.m. without interruptions. Much better than waking up at 12:30 and then every hour on the hour. I can't even imagine how I would've made it through these busy weeks without any sleep.

Now that I have energy, I am working out almost everyday. I have my running group on Mondays and Wednesdays and I've been trying to get to the pool on my "off" days. I am so excited to be back in my routine. I'm also watching what I eat. I am eating better -- yesterday for lunch I had a gigantic salad -- but mostly I am just owning what I eat. I went to a party Wednesday night, and I totally put seven crackers and two tablespoons of hot artichoke dip down on my food chart. And I STILL was under on my calories. So there.

I know I have a tough row to hoe, but I will get there. Maybe I'm just deluded by all the oxygen that's getting to my brain these days, but I doubt it. I have a suspicion I've been sick for a lot longer than I thought because it's like I woke up and I was in a way-back machine to a time when I walked religiously everyday. I was thinking back to my friend Lori and how we'd walk five miles to go to that restaurant we loved and split a salad. That'd probably kill me if I tried to do it right now. Those were good times, and I can get back there. I know I can..

There's a big stack of paper on my desk that's calling -- no, screaming -- my name, so I will have to get going for now. There are plenty of things I want to tell you, so keep an eye out for when I get a free second. I do love my new laptop; we just don't spend much time together.
